Everyone knows the basic water with lemon. Every restaurant, fancy dinner, etc serves water with lemon, sometimes upon requests, others as its main staple. But lemon is not the only fruit that can be added to water by any means. Adding fruits (and even vegetables!) and spices to water is a great way to add flavor while using your product before it goes bad. Who likes throwing away their produce because they couldn't eat it before it goes bad? I know I am guilty of buying more fruit than I can eat at one time, especially if it is on sale.

So this isn't really a recipe I found anywhere online, but more of my own experimentation as well as too much time scrolling through the fitblr community on tumblr. I love adding things to my water, especially in summertime, to give it a refreshing twist. There are so many fun combinations that result in so much goodness. So in this rendition of Foodie Friday I'm going to share different ways to dress up your water.

Hints and tricks:

  • Squeeze citrus slightly to release flavor without overpowering it

  • Use lime in small slivers. It's STRONG.

  • Slightly crush berries to release flavor

  • Slightly crush herbs to release flavor. You shouldn't rip the leaves, but they should be aromatic.

  • Cut produce into chunks. Don't just plop an entire strawberry into your bottle.

  • While you can use the fruit for a few glasses, which it out after about 6 hours. By that point the flavor is gone and it becomes weird and mushy.

I hope that this week’s Foodie Friday has encouraged you to drink more water and change up the usual water with lemon. Let us know your favorite water combo in the comments below! Stay thirsty, my friends.
