DIY Wednesday: Dry Erase Organizer

If you find yourself as busy as I am, I bet you can sometimes have trouble organizing your thoughts let alone where you have to be and when. Personally, I came to college with the worst time management skills, my room was never cleaned, and I despised the thought of organizing. And then I realized that without those things, college would be an even more difficult uphill battle. I began to love cleaning my room (it was my Friday tradition the past two years, this year I try to clean up my suite every Saturday, but it is kind of hit and miss), and I love sitting down Sunday and filling in my planners to organize the week ahead of me. I am a part of so many organizations that I have several meetings a week, on top of assignments, and now work.
So in order to adjust to the college busy life, I would invest in a planner. In addition, I had a calendar hanging in my room (however, it is difficult to do that this year seeing as how my room is made up of concrete blocks), as well as a daily to-do list on my extra mirror I had on the wall (oh, how I miss having two mirrors in my room). So this year as I took on more activities, I knew that I would have to stick with organizing my planner daily. So far, I have done a pretty good job. I typically will make a to-do list in my calendar planner while I am sitting in class waiting for the professor to come (orrrrrr if I find myself getting a little bored). And as nerdy as this sounds, my favorite part is crossing off each item; it is such a satisfying feeling after accomplishing a task, even if it is a small one.
While cruising through Pinterest one day, I came across a pin about making a hanging multi-frame into an erasable weekday planner. So I decided to make one with the supplies I had. I had a frame with seven holds available for photos. All my photos were old, so I just simple took them out and replaced the background with scrapbook paper I had recently acquired for another project (FYI: at the time, Michael’s had the scrapbook paper 4/$1.00, which is a fantastic deal and totally the ideal time to stock up on different designs of the paper which can be used for more than just scrap-booking). As a resident assistant, it is a necessity to have dry-erase markers scattered throughout my room, so it was easy to acquire one for my new organizer. To finish up, I got some command strips and placed them on my wall. I only needed two strips for my somewhat heavy frame, and I was very happy that they actually worked and to this day my frame remains in place.
It has become my weekly ritual to sit down with my planner and my frame organizer and fill out each day in advance. I have placed it near my door, so I always see it before I leave and know how I should plan my day ahead. It’s so easy to clean at the end of the week, I simply use my dry-eraser, however, a simple paper towel or tissue will do just as well.

My frame organizer with the scrapbook paper background. The 7 openings are perfect for an entire week!

How I usually begin my Sunday Evenings….sitting down with this lovely thing!

All done and hung up on the wall. I have a busy week ahead, so my bed will be calling my name soon so I can be all rested up
This was an awesome find, it was really simple to make, and I had all of the supplies on hand so it cost me basically nothing, even better! It’s a great organizer, and I highly recommend it for those of you busy bees out there (make sure to hang it near your door so you will always see it)!
Good night and pin on!
