My Date with the Dead: The Final Installment

So what have I learned from my visit to Pennhurst? I do believe in the paranormal. I do believe that spirits/ ghosts exist. While I felt some feelings of uneasiness in a few spots on the campus for the most part I felt that the “Lost Souls of Pennhurst” are just that – LOST. I believe that many of them may have been so disabled in real life that in their spirit life they don’t quite understand they can go to a better place. I am certain there are a few not so nice souls that reside here, but overall I think the majority of the souls are children just looking for some attention and to feel loved.
I am not sure I buy into all the gadgets; the scientist in me found myself asking about the validity of the machines. How does one really know that the electromagnetic waves are necessarily associated with a ghost? And exactly how does that Ovilus translate an EMF into a word? They were fun to play with, but I think my “Ghost Meter” is my gut feeling. I do believe that the little girl referred to as Emily was there and was trying to make her presence known. I also believe that someone was trying to make their voice heard on my playback when they gruffly yelled out “Talk.” I believe the orbs and shadow people I caught in my pictures are for real and are manifestations of some spirits trying to figure out where they are and what is going on.
Would I go back? ABSOLUTELY! There is talk of them opening a few other buildings on campus in the not so distant future. I would love to explore the Devon Building with its infamous “CANDYLAND” basement as well as experience the Quaker Building. I would not mind revisiting the Mayflower as well. I would like to try and communicate with Emily, or maybe even get “Howie” to move his plane for me. There is also rumor of a nurse in the Mayflower that gives you shots (as in the vaccine type, not the alcoholic kind)! Several people have reported feeling as if a sharp needle poked them. Not sure whether that is Nurse Catherine or not, but the flu season is upon us so maybe she is just continuing to do her job and keep everyone safe.
I strongly believe that in order to have a true experience you have to be “open” to it. If you don’t believe in the paranormal then I really don’t think the ghosts will bother with you. I think they can sense people who are genuinely open and are more likely to reach out to them. I also learned that with many things in life, sometimes trying too hard gets you no where; sometimes all you can do is sit back and wait for something to happen. The more we tried to have conversations with the other side the less interested they seemed in us. But the moment we just chatted amongst each other or just relaxed seemed to be when the majority of our experiences took place.
I also would encourage anyone with allergies or asthma that wishes to visit Pennhurst to wear some sort of facemask/ or respirator and bring an inhaler just to be safe. Also I believe smaller groups are better. If you go in a large group you may wish to break up into smaller groups. I got the sense that perhaps the larger groups intimidated some of the spirits.
Is Pennhurst definitely haunted? Why don’t you visit and tell me what you think???
