This recipe found me at the perfect time. I had plans for the evening to go to an RA gathering and wanted to bring a snack for everyone. Once I found this recipe, I knew it was the one and immediately raced to the grocery store. I had less than an hour and a half, but I knew I’d be able to make this quick treat just in time.

I found this recipe on pinterest, but it can be located at: http://www.foodily.com/r/hhvy1Dyz0G-reeses-peanut-butter-bark-by-hersheys

Ingredients and directions:

2 packages (4 oz. each) HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Bar, broken into pieces

1-2/3 cups (10-oz. pkg.) REESE'S Peanut Butter Chips

1 tablespoon shortening

1/2 cup roasted peanuts or toasted almonds, coarsely chopped

Melt chips in microwave, stirring in 30 second increments

Spoon melted chocolate onto a tray covered in wax paper and swirl together

Refrigerate for approximately one hour

Tips and Tricks:

  • I heated both bowls of chips in the microwave at once so that one wouldn’t begin to harden while the other was melting

  • I excluded the peanuts/almonds/whatever

  • I froze the chocolate bark rather than refrigerating it because I was in a rush. It turned out perfectly!

  • Next time, I plan to use peanut butter rather than the peanut butter chips. I’m hoping it will work the same way

  • Since I am a broke college student, I did not have shortening. I replaced it with butter

  • I also did not use the name brand products recommended in the recipe

Review:

This chocolate peanut butter bark was a huge hit! I took a pretty big container of it and it was gone. We ate it with glasses of hot chocolate and it was the perfect companion. I will definitely be making this again. Put it in a cute tin and it would make the perfect gift! Although, next time I'm going to attempt to make it look more like the picture in the recipe.
