My Date with the Dead: The Second Floor Common Room

We entered the common room and hesitantly I took a seat. I didn’t mind sitting in the folding chair on the third floor while waiting for Nurse Catherine’s shadow, nor did I mind sitting in the chair with Raggedy Ann, but sitting in the rubberized chair in the common room made me feel a little uncomfortable. If the patients weren’t confined to their beds they spent a large majority of their time in this room, either sitting in these chairs or laying on the cement floor, sometimes covered in their own feces since there was not enough staff to attend to them. I didn’t want to steal a ghost’s seat nor sit on top of them and squish them so I sat ever so gently with my ass kind of hanging off the end. We had the Ovilus still turned on and asked if anyone wanted to talk. No one responded so we just shot the shit for a bit until all of a sudden the Ovilus spit out “Charles Race.” We asked if “Charles” was the ghost’s name. He replied with “carpet.” My take on this was that whomever this sprit was he was making a request. Perhaps he was asking if the room could be carpeted since the cement floor was not the most comfortable to be lying on.

One of the SJSS investigators decided to do a playback, where he records us questioning the spirit then plays back the audio right away to see if anything was recorded. I recorded this as well. When we listened to the playback there was nothing except a few of the words muttered out by the Ovilus. I didn’t pay it much mind until a few days later when I went back through my videos so I could delete anything I didn’t want to make room on my phone. As I played back my recording you hear the SJSS investigator ask “are there any spirits who want to talk with us tonight?” and clear as day on my playback you hear a very gruff ghost say “TALK.” Many of you reading this are probably wondering why the spirits did not utilize complete sentences. What you have to remember is that some of the patients housed in this facility were so severely mentally handicapped that they only knew a handful of words, if any. Take it for what you will.

Second Floor common room – where someone wanted to “TALK” with us.

According to the “Ghosts of the Mayflower” there is a shadowman that likes to hang out in the bathroom of this common room

One thing I learned from the conversation with our little ghost friend in that second floor common room was that ghosts are a lot like cats… they don’t always want you to play with them, until you begin to ignore them, then they want your attention. I found the more we asked questions and tried to get the spirit to chat, the less they wanted anything to do with us. But the more we sat there and just carried out our own conversations, the more the Ovilus would begin to speak out words.

Once we were done chatting with the common room ghost we decided to head to the first floor then make our way out for a little fresh air.
