Bring Autumn into your Home this Fall!

Whether you love fall or hate it, there is no denying that it is here. The leaves are falling, the sun is setting sooner than it has been, and the breeze has that northern chill to it. Although I hate the winter that follows, I wholeheartedly embrace fall. I love big sweaters, hoodies, seeing the change in the leaves, the golden, evening sunlight. I love it all. Tea, hot chocolate, pumpkin, apple picking, football games. I'm there. I guess you could say I am a BWG (figure it out). But today I'm going to give you lovely readers a few ways to embrace the season and bring some of it's beauty into you home.

Candles, Wax Melts, and Other Smelly Stuff

I personally love candles and wax melts. I absolutely cannot have candles in a dorm room, but wax melts. That's debatable. I have an abundance of scents, all wonderful, but my fall collection of scents has recently grown. There's no better way to bring fall into your home than the smell of pumpkin, apples, or fresh baked blueberry cheesecake. Don't forget about amber teakwood! The musky, yet smooth scent is reminicent of an oversized hoodie from the man you love (or maybe that's just me). Pictured below, I have my favorite fall melts: Scentsy Blueberry Cheesecake, which tricks the entire floor into thinking someone is baking muffins, Pumpkin Cheesecake locally made Mia Melts, which smell spicy and delicious, Better Homes Farm Apple Pumpkin, which smells like apple cider and pumpkin, and Brushed Amber Teakwood, described above. No matter where you go, you will be able to find fall melts, candles, and even wall plug-ins. My personal favorite places are scentsy stands, because the frangrances are incredibly long-lasting, and wal-mart because the melts are inexpensive and last fairly long, depending on the scent.

Fake Flower Arrangements Brighten Up a Room

There are so many fake flower arrangements are possible in the fall. Splashes of reds, yellows, and oranges will really bring in the fall cheese. Pair with fake leaves and pinecones for a truly amazing Autumn look! White flowers also fit in nicely, and sunflowers are definitely one of my fall faves. Picture below is an arrangement my mom brought up to school for me in a frosted mason jar, so cute! Along with flowers and pinecones, she also included cattales and berries, along with some whispier leaves, really pulling the natural autumn look together. Flowers add a great feeling to any room, and fake ones last the whole season! Just don't forget that fake flowers collect dusk too, so make sure not to neglect them on cleaning day!

Upgrade your Decor with Dishware and Drinkware!

I personally am a big fan of owls. I love owls because they are just so cute! I have various forms of owl drinkware, including a mug, a mason jar with a handle, and my latest, a purple owl shaped mason jar with a lid and straw. These adorable cups can be found in all sorts of places. The owl mug can be found at either Papyrus or Wegmans, the cup at Dollar General, and the owl mason jar at Cracker Barrel. Other home decor, such as salt and pepper shakers, decorative plates, and placemats can be found inexpensively at similar stores. I personally am a big fan of the Dollar General for seasonal decor. Below you can see my adorable owl shaped mason jar. Isn't the deep purple just great for the fall season?

There's Nothing Like the Smell of Fresh Baked Cookies

Baking is another great way to bring the scents of the season into your home. Whether it's an apple pie or pumpkin cookies, these fall scents are classic. Below you can see a few dozen pumpkin cookies -- these smelled great! Baking with cinnamon will cause a wonderful scent to waft throughout your home, and trust me, there is nothing better than the comforting scents of autumn. There are so many possibilities for fall-themed foods, just wait for all of our upcoming Foodie Fridays! Glazed pecans, cinnamon waffles, banana bread, pumpkin muffins, apple crumb pie, you name it. It all smells great! So what are you waiting for? Get baking!

Break out the Blankets

There are a few great things about fall (okay, more than a few.) One of which is snuggly blankets. Why not break out your quilt? That fleece throw you got for Christmas? The sweatshirt blanket with your university's name on it? Why not take it a step further? Get out the flannel sheets, leave your window open at night, and smell the crisp fall air while staying warm in a cuccoon of flannel and fleece. Have a loved one who doesn't have a favorite blanket? Why not try your hand at quilting? Two years ago, I made Jake a t-shirt quilt with flannel backing, and he absolutely loves it. You can see all the wear-and-tear it has suffered through the years, but that just shows it has been well-used. Along with the quilt I included a set of flannel sheets because Pennsylvania nights can get quite chilly this time of year. If quilting is too daunting of a task, and trust me, it is no easy feat, why not make a fleece tie blanket? These types of blankets are super simple to make, and often times fabric stores sell pre-cut fabric sets, perfect if you're not sure how big to make the blanket!

These are just some of the many ways to embrace the change in the seasons. As the chill begins to settle in, you'll find youself reaching for jeans instead of shorts, a sweater instead of a tank top, and a warm blanket at night when you're cuddled on the couch watching TV, reading a book, or doing homework. Don't forget to bundle up when you head out to those footballs games, that is unless it's a rather warm day! Happy fall, y'all!
