Why There's Nothing Wrong With Being a Basic White Girl

Do you smell it? DO YOU SMELL IT? It’s the smell of PUMPKIN EVERYTHING. Pumpkin lattes, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pie. I will be the first to admit, I love pumpkin. And what isn’t to love? It’s sweet, spicy, aromatic, delicious. Did I mention delicious?

It’s true. When fall rolls around, I am in a state of bliss. I love the cool breeze, the mildly warm sun, the changing of the leaves, sitting outside, reading a book with some Starbucks coffee or

going for walks while bundled in a sweatshirt. There’s just something magically romantic about Fall. I drag my boyfriend to football games, we pick pumpkins, we drink apple cider, I bake apple pies, I wear big sweaters I found at the Salvation Army. I’ve even gotten up before dawn so I could see the sun rise over the red-orange-yellow horizon from the top of a mountain.

It may be “basic” but it’s also another b-word. Beautiful. It’s freaking beautiful. If you don’t see the beauty that is Autumn, you need to open your eyes. You can’t tell me you can’t imagine sitting at a bonfire in the chilly evening, wrapped in your favorite hoodie, laughing with your friends. You can’t tell me that the feeling of a hot coffee warming your fingers doesn’t give you the hint of a smile. You can’t tell me you don’t feel a sense of satisfaction when you can stand outside and not break a sweat when you’re standing still, something you just suffered from the past three or so months. It’s a beautiful time. It’s transformative. Maybe it’s just the romantic in me, but I love autumn. And I also believe that we all have a hint of “basic white girl” hiding in our hearts for this beautiful season.
