This year I have the privilege of being a Resident Assistant at my university. With the position comes the opportunity to break out my DIY skills and attempt new crafts. The first craft that I decided to try as an RA was a magnetic “Where Am I?” board, but this magnetic board can be utilized for a ton of purposes. It can be used just to hang photos and memos on, or you can laminate your paper to make it dry erase friendly.

To start, I bought all the supplies I thought I might need, as well as searching through things I already had that I might be able to use. In the end, my supply list looked like this:
1 magnetic whiteboard from 5 Below
1 small bottle of mod podge glue
1 sponge brush
1 packet of cute scrapbook paper
1 magnet
1 flower accent
1 pack of white lables
1 white envelope
1 metallic gold sharpie
1 hot glue gun with glue stick

So the first thing I did was write out my tags and glue them onto the scrapbook paper along with the envelope. I did this first because I thought it might be easier to maneuver one piece of paper rather than a thicker whiteboard. I then glued the scrapbook paper onto the whiteboard. I did have to go back and reapply glue in some areas because it did not stick. After I glued the scrapbook paper onto the whiteboard, I set it aside to dry.
While the whiteboard was drying, I plugged in my hot glue gun and prepared the supplies for my decorative magnet. I chose to use a flower accent that matched my color scheme. I attached the flower to a round, but flat magnet using a large amount of hot glue, just to make sure it would not fall off. Once both the magnet and the board were dry, I used command strips to affix it to the outside of my door.

Although this was a pretty simple DIY that I used in order to aid in Res Life, a customized magnetic board can be used and made for a variety of uses. If you think you could use a cute magnetic board in some area of your life, don’t hesitate to try making your own!
