12 Things I Realized More When I Became An "Adult"

Your parents will turn into your best friends. You will be able to talk to them like anyone else because you start to see things through their eyes. You realize how hard they worked to keep a roof over your head and food in your stomach. When you do realize this, or if you have already, be sure to thank them. Now, all of that being said, this will not necessarily happen for all of you.. I have a few friends that could argue quite the contrary. So don't assume just because I say it, it's right. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

  1. That cars cost a fuck-ton of money. It’s not always a one-and-done payment. You have to pay out your ass, forever, to even be able to call the car officially “yours.” My first car was purchased for me, but just recently buying my own gave me the biggest reality check of them all.

  2. Pets cost a lot more money than your parents let on. I never realized how much dogs cost until I actually went and adopted one myself. For whatever reason, when I was young I always thought that they were free to good homes no matter where you went.

  3. Taxes suck ass… There are no two ways about it. And that’s all you really need to know about that.

  4. You’ll cherish your childhood more than anything now that it’s gone.

  5. You can always ask for help even though you’re considered an “adult.” Everyone does it, and when I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE.

  6. You will fail. There is no way you won’t at least once. This is something I had a hard time coming to terms with, but when I did, I felt much better about it.

  7. There’s nothing you will want more than to care for someone or something. Everyone wants someone to love them, and to return their love. But unfortunately, it’s not always that easy. But don’t give up. You have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your Prince Charming, I know I did.

  8. You won’t always love your job, but you will eventually. I have had only two real jobs in my lifetime. One being with my current company, where I am a sales associate at a candy shop/museum. The other being at a learning center for math and reading where I worked with elementary level kids. I will never love any job more than when I worked with kids. But I need money to pay my bills, so I keep going whether I hate it or not.

  9. Bills will be perpetual. Whether it be a car payment, taxes, car taxes, rent, mortgage, property tax, anything. Bills will follow you wherever you go.

  10. You can’t be afraid to take risks. Once again, you will fail, maybe once, maybe numerous times. But you have to take risks. If you don’t take risks, then you don’t live. Reach the bounds of your comfort zone, you got this.

  11. Make sure to treat yourself once and a while. Like I said before, bills will start to consume you, or at least I know that’s how I feel from time-to-time. Make sure to treat yourself to something once per paycheck, or per month, or whatever. Whether it be something as big as a spa mani-pedi, or something as small as a nice Chipotle lunch. You need to treat yourself or you will drown.

Just make sure, despite being an adult; and feeling like everything may suck, that you stay hopeful, my friends!
