So every summer I make a summer reading list for myself, and every summer I get about halfway through my list before I decide that I want to read something else. It just so happens that I went to Barnes and Noble last week and purchased two books from the Young Adult fiction section. One the these books, Poor Little Dead Girls, caught my eye because the cover reviews sold it as Pretty Little Liars meets Gossip Girl, two of my favorite shows. So of course I had to buy it.

And I’m glad I did. This book was pretty freakin’ good, especially for a first time novelist. I had no idea where the plot was going to take me, even toward the end. While staged at a private boarding school, the main character Sadie is relatable: a scholarship student who comes from a middle class home life, plays sports, and is aspiring to get into her dream school. Her life begins to change and her past unfolds when she becomes involved in a secret society that dates back centuries. Even then, the “secret society” plot isn’t overdone or too far fetched. The story is believable, edgy, and catchy.

I devoured this book in just a few days after going through a brief period of time where I wasn’t in the mood to read. Thanks to this book, I’m on another reading kick.

Although I don’t know if this book will be a series, it really could go either way. Not every end was tied up, but enough was that it could be a stand-alone novel. Then again, it could continue on. I guess only time will tell. Until then, get out there and pick up your copy of Poor Little Dead Girls and get reading!
