There are just some books you can’t get into, no matter how hard you try. Sometimes, you can’t even make it past the first two chapters before you give up, sometimes it’s the first page. As much as I wanted to push myself through for the sake of the Summer Reading Series, I could not get through The Dreams of Significant Girls. Four years ago, I probably would have enjoyed the novel, but now, being 20, a 14 and 15-year-old protagonists are incredibly hard to relate to. The language of the novel was very simplistic, because the target audience of the novel is one that is much younger than I am now.

I purchased The Dreams of Significant Girls at 2nd and Charles, one of my all time favorite bookstores. I only spent $3 on the novel and it was brand new, so it was not a significant loss. The summary on the back of the novel sounded interesting, and had the characters been a little older and a little more relatable, I probably would have sped through the 200-page book. But that is not the way it is, and I’ve never been very good at forcing myself to read a book I can’t get interested in. So, in conclusion, I am removing The Dreams of Significant Girls from my summer reading list. Happy Reading!
