Let’s talk about food… Everyone has a relationship with it, whether you’re in love with it, or you hate it, or you have a love/hate relationship with your food, the relationship is there. A hefty majority of us have Pinterest boards filled with a million and one recipes we are dying to try, but some of us are too afraid to get in the kitchen and test out our skills. You are talking to one of those people. I have always been terrified of being in the kitchen, mostly because my mom was so amazing at it that I felt I had the biggest competition of all. Like I was on an episode of Iron Chef that I could never win because who wouldn’t vote for Mama’s cooking? But really, she turned into my biggest ally. One of my biggest “flaws” (I put quotes around it because I don’t even know that you can call it a flaw) is that I don’t really believe in myself. So even now, when I cook, as I’m serving my dish, the first words out of my mouth are, “If it sucks, don’t be afraid to tell me, just be honest.” And my meals always get rave reviews (unless you’re all lying to me, then you’re assholes). My mom was the first one who brought me into the kitchen with one of my Pinterest recipes and said, “You can do this, you have all the ingredients in front of you, so just…make the dish.” And that’s what I did, my very first (perfected the first time) dish was Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Casserole from sheknows.com. Literally the most spectacular thing I have ever made, and always my go-to if I have the ingredients or even just enough time to grab the things I need before I know I’ll be starving. So this column, or topic, will be dedicated to recipes (Pinterest and otherwise acquired) that you may absolutely love the idea of, but are too afraid to make. These will be our experiences with recipes found on Pinterest (or elsewhere), our reviews of them, if we’d make them again, pictures, etc. Just so that the foodies out there can be cooking foodies and not just enjoy what other people create all the time. It is now your turn to bring some food to the party!!! So hold on to your chef hats, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride, but at least we have each other! Welcome to Foodie Friday, stay hungry, my friends.
