So it took me longer than it should have to realize that Wild was not included on my summer reading list. Anyway I am here to bring you the low down on my first completed summer read! I finished Wild last night, refusing to go to bed until I completed the final 25 pages of the book, even though I had to wake up at 7 a.m. to get ready for an exciting day of work, job interviews, and staff meetings. My summer is getting into full swing, so I really wanted to finish Wild before things became too hectic. But don't worry. I will be keeping up with my summer reads.

Back in December, Wild was given to me by my pseudo-aunt (Jake’s aunt) to borrow. Knowing how much I love to hike, she lent me the book, knowing I would love it. Now, months later I have finally completed it after feeling guilty about how long I've been hanging onto it. Now, after the completion of another crazy semester, I have finished Wild, and much as Jake’s aunt had guessed, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Wild is a memoir written by Cheryl Strayed about her journey on the Pacific Crest Trail. For our East Coast readers, it’s a lot like the Appalachian Trail, except longer and not as well known. After an avalanche of unfortunate life events, Strayed chose to spend a few months secluded from mainstream society on the PCT in order to regain her ground. In 311 pages, Strayed chronicles her journey, and her transformation takes place right before the reader’s very eyes.

Along with sharing her story of self-doubt, struggle, and hardship, Strayed also draws attention to the kindness of the strangers who helped her along her way, both on and off of the PCT.

While I don’t often read non-fiction, I like to pick up a memoir every now and then to switch things up. If you haven’t read any memoirs, or you’re like me and like to switch up your reading routines, grab a copy of Cheryl Strayed’s Wild this summer and let me know what you think! Now I’m off to watch the movie adaptation, but as with all movie adaptations, I don’t have my expectations set too high. Happy reading.
