From Backyards to Beaches: Chrissy's Summer Reading List

Summer is the perfect time to unwind, lounging in the sun with a good book, one that wasn’t assigned as a part of required reading for that American Lit class you immediately regretted signing up for. With the work load of another semester behind me, I once again have time to sit back and relax. Finally having the chance to get around to all of those books that sat untouched on my shelf, mocking my busy schedule and ever-growing mountain of assignments.

Every year at the beginning of the summer I like to sit down in front of my bookcase and scan over the titles, both of the books I have read and those I have not yet gotten around to reading. I then crack open a notebook, pen in hand, and make a list of books I’d like to complete throughout the course of the summer. This year my list includes ten books that I will be reviewing all summer long.

The first book on my list is Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Already about halfway done, this book has been sitting on my shelf since Christmas when my boyfriend’s aunt lent it to me. Feeling guilty about how long I’ve had it, I’ve decided to tackle this memoir first before proceeding onto my other books. Make sure to check back when the full review is posted!

Other books on my summer reading list include Lauren Graham’s bestseller, Someday, Someday, Maybe, and Gone Girl, another book I’ve been trying to get around to but have not had to chance to crack open. These are just two of the ten titles I will be reading and reviewing all Summer long. Hopefully through these posts, I will inspire you to head to your local book store and pick up one of these reads, or to take a book you’ve been wanting to read off of your own shelf and read it while sitting pool side, beach front, or even sprawled out on a blanket in your own back yard.

Summer has begun. Happy reading!
