Perfect imperfections

Perfection is a word that is thrown around far too much nowadays. A word used almost as much as the word love, even to describe love. Neither of which any of us (young or old) really know the meaning. I sit here and think of how much I, personally, use the word “perfect” in a day. I use it to describe situations, how I feel, how I want to look, and how I hope my life will end up. But I also realize that I have to stop using this word; because with definitions like, “having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be” or “Absolute; complete (used for emphasis)” you can’t really put “perfect” into any context without somehow misusing it. Well, I shouldn’t say that, I take that back. You CAN use it without misusing it, but you need to realize that everyone’s definition of “perfect” is not the same. Once we realize this, “perfect” will be perfect.
In my own life, I can’t even tell you how many times I have looked in a magazine and thought, “she is absolutely perfect, why can’t I be her?” But until now, when I came to accept myself as I am. I never realized what a bad habit even thinking about being perfect actually is. I would compare myself to other people’s idea of perfect. The photoshop and the filters that society has made so prominent in today’s world. But really, in starting this, I am trying to get others to look at themselves as their own version of perfect, and to stop thinking of there just being one, solid definition which popular culture has created for us.
It is 2014, although there is more technology and more ways for society to tell us what we should be as opposed to be who you are these are not things that we should be focusing on. We should be focusing on how we feel about ourselves, staying in school, making some friends who love us for who we are. We shouldn’t worry about getting dolled up for anyone but ourselves in the morning and if we don’t feel like wearing pants or a bra, then don’t!
Your version of perfect is what looks, feels, and is perfect for you. So “perfect” isn’t always ideal, but as long as it’s yours, well, that’s all that should matter. So when you wake up tomorrow morning, get up, and put on your sassy pants and own the day in your own “perfect” way.
